1) What are the three key things you have learned from this service learning project?
I have learnt that in order to help others, we must be patient, understanding and encouraging. Also, from this project, I learned to be committed to something, going over to the centres to serve and learn every Saturday. Lastly, I learned and experienced the joy of giving and helping others through the different events organised by TYA as well as the weekly sessions held at the centres.

2) What are the two challenges you faced during this service learning project?
We had to go to our assigned centres to tutor the children. One challenge that I faced was during the process of tutoring the children. I found that some of the children were not motivated and unenthusiastic about learning. Also, I found it difficult to explain certain concepts to them. Another challenge that I faced was when we were preparing for the service learning component of the project where we were required to plan an activity for the children. Not only did we have to have a sound understanding of what we were doing, we also had to simplify it so that it would be easier for the children to understand. We also had to find interesting activities that the children could benefit from and also enjoy.

3) If you were to do this project again, what are the two things you would do differently?

If I could do this project again, I would try to be more enthusiastic when tutoring the children, so that they would be more engaged. Also, I would suggest that we do tutoring topically rather than doing practice papers only, as this would benefit the children who do not have a good foundation.

4) How would you assess the success of this project?
I think that this project has been very successful. We have really made a difference to these childrens' lives, and have also benefitted from the project, taking away learning experiences and also enjoying ourselves in the process. Although I feel that we could have done better both individually and as a team, I feel that we did a very good job for a first time engaging in such a project.
